The entertainment community converged on February 20th to honor the year’s best in writing for film, television and radio. Winners included the writing team of 30 Rock. 62nd Annual Writers Guild Awards Winners Announced

The 62nd annual Writers Guild Awards were announced at the Hudson Theatre on Saturday, February 20th. The winners are:

 

Alan Zweibel to Receive WGAE Hunter Award for Lifetime Achievement in Writing

Zweibel will receive his honorary award at the 62nd annual WGA Awards event at the Hudson Theatre on February 20, 2010.

 

David Steven Cohen to Receive WGAE Jablow Award Award

Cohen will receive his honorary award for devoted service to the WGAE at the 62nd annual WGA Awards event at the Hudson Theatre on February 20, 2010

 

Edward Albee to Receive WGAE Evelyn F. Burkey Award

Albee will receive the honorary Burkey award for contributions that have brought honor and dignity to writers everywhere at the 62nd annual WGA Awards event at the Hudson Theatre on February 20, 2010.

 

Gary David Goldberg to Receive WGAE Sargent Award for Comedy Excellence

Goldberg, an award-winning writer of television, film and books, will receive his honorary award at the 62nd annual WGA Awards event at the Hudson Theatre on February 20, 2010.

WGAE Council Member Phil Pilato’s Journey

Phil Pilato is an editor and service aide at 1010 WINS and a WGAE Council member. In December, Phil was diagnosed with breast cancer. He is trying to help others with the same devastating disease by blogging his experiences and feelings dealing with his diagnosis and treatment. Read his blog.

 

‘The Economics of Digital Media’ Draws Record Audience

More than 200 people jammed the Paley Center for Media on Feb. 24 to hear Anita Ondine, Mo Koyfman and Mark Lukasiewcz discuss the economics of digital media. The seminar launched the WGAE’s digital media education program.

WGAE members writing online content networked with some of the Guild’s established TV and film writers at the Friars Club. “Writers are always meeting with directors and producers, but there isn’t a lot of cross-pollination with other writers.  It’s always really valuable to talk to other writers.  I don’t know a lot about new media so it was both nice to meet new people but also good to find out what they are doing”, said Michael Weber, writer of (500) Days of Summer. Strike Commemoration
