James V. (J.V.) Hart to Receive Screenwriting Inspiration Award

Acclaimed screenwriter James V. (J.V.) Hart will be honored with the Screenwriting Inspiration Award at the Connecticut Film Festival. The award, which is co-sponsored by the Connecticut Film Festival and the Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE) at a special reception and awards ceremony on Thursday, June 4th at the Tarrywile Mansion in Danbury, CT.

 

“In 2009, CTFF and WGAE have joined hands to celebrate the accomplishments of one individual by presenting the ‘Screenwriting Inspiration Award’ to James V. Hart, a writer that has always mixed fantasy, compassion and great ideas in his highly entertaining stories,” said Tom Carruthers, executive director of the Connecticut Film Festival. “Jim has entertained all of us with the likes of such delightful and intriguing stories as: August Rush, Contact, and Hook to name a few. June 4th is his time to be entertained and honored by the industry.”

 

Hart has written both film and novels. His film writing/producing credits include: Hook, based on an idea by Hart’s then six-year-old son; Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Muppet Treasure Island , Contact, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Jack and the Beanstalk: The Real Story, and Tuck Everlasting. In addition, he adapted Sahara, Snow Goose, and Atlas Shrugged for the screen and also contributed to Lara Croft-Tomb Raider II.

 

His literary work includes Captain Hook Adventures of a Notorious Youth and the sequel he is currently writing, Captain Hook Pirate King. In addition, he currently serves as secretary of the Writers Guild of America, East Foundation.
