Finalizing a Contract

Once a proposed contract is agreed upon by the teams of negotiators, the contract is voted on by the negotiating committee, and subsequently by the Guild Council. After the Council approves the contract, it is then submitted for a final ratification vote by members who will work under the contract.

After ratification, administration of the contract begins. Each contract is assigned to one or more members of the Guild staff, who subsequently remain in close contact with shop stewards and union members to monitor its enforcement.

A shop steward is an active union member who helps to maintain a consistent flow of information between the WGAE and members working for the same employer or in the same department. Your shop steward can be a great resource for union information in general.

The Guild closely monitors all activities after the contract is signed to insure that management adheres to all contract provisions stipulated in the contract.
