Why Can’t They All Be Like Johnny Depp? by Jeffrey Hirschberg is about a single woman in her thirties who has it all: brains, looks, and a great career in NYC. But she's lonely because she has no one to share her life with. The only one worthy of her, in her opinion, is Johnny Depp, because he is the perfection that she feels she deserves. One morning, she awakens to find every male in NYC has suddenly and mysteriously transformed into Johnny Depp. And she finally is with the man she's always wanted. This is a story about being careful about what one wishes for. Read more about Jeffrey.
Not My Beautiful Wife by John Yarbrough is about a neurotic Mega-star Couple who will do anything to save their troubled marriage, but are too paranoid and protective of their image to even dare go into sex therapy to save it. So they enlist one down-on-his luck brother and a wannabe actress to go into therapy for them to work out their problems. As the Hollywood couple listens in on the therapy, their "fill-ins" pretend these megastar problems are theirs. But when the fill ins fall in love during the therapy, everything goes haywire. Read more about John.
WGAE President Michael Winship, Emmy Award-winning senior writer of Bill Moyers Journal, serves as the moderator for the evening and will conduct a Q&A with the screenwriter and audience after each reading.
Susane Lee, a Lifetime Member of the WGAE, produces the screenplay readings.
