Web Series Pitch Competition and Development Workshop
March 23, 2011
Thinking about writing for new media? Have a great idea for a web project but not sure if it’s viable? Wondering what makes a good web series? Story? Branding potential? What will hook an audience? Who is my audience?
For writers from traditional media the development process when self producing for the web can seem daunting. The next event in our ongoing Digital Media Education series is designed with exactly this in mind. Please join us at the WGAE offices on Wednesday March 23rd at 7pm for the first ever WGAE Web Series Pitch Competition – a fun, interactive and educational event that should inspire writers to get started on their own digital projects and help those that are already on the way.
There are two ways to participate in this event – you can be in the audience or you can enter the competition and pitch a potential or existing web project. Comedian Wayne Federman (writer for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, actor on Curb Your Enthusiasm and much more) will host and a panel of prominent digital entertainment professionals - Rob Barnett, Founder and CEO of MyDamnChannel.com, Josh Cohen, Co-Founder Tubefilter.tv and Jeremy Redleaf, writer and star of the hit web series Odd Jobs - will offer feedback and constructive criticism to contestants. At the end of the competition, audience members will have a chance to ask the judges questions about pitching web projects as well. Our friends at the New York TV Festival are cosponsoring and will provide refreshments as well as a prize for the winner. But more importantly, the event will be a great opportunity to learn what makes a great, viable web series.
In order to attend you must RSVP directly to Ursula Lawrence at ulawrence@. wgaeast.org
***PLEASE NOTE: If you would like to participate in the competition and pitch a web series you will need to indicate this specifically. The first 10 or so people who specify that they want to enter the competition will get a slot – the event will last about an hour.***
