The Department of Visual and Media Arts at Emerson College invites applications for a full-time faculty position in film production. Appointment is for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, or, in exceptional circumstances, an Associate Professor position, depending on qualifications and experience. An M.F.A degree is strongly preferred, but candidates with significant professional experience will also be considered. At least three years of full-time college-level teaching experience is required. Candidates must have familiarity with 16 mm film, digital video, sound recording, digital and analog editing processes, expertise in one or more production disciplines, and a knowledge of more than one media modality (e.g. documentary production, narrative drama production, experimental filmmaking). Responsibilities include teaching filmmaking courses at all levels within the department's B.A. and B.F.A. programs. Evidence of excellence in teaching and the ability to effectively critique student work and provide project mentoring to students in filmmaking is required. The successful candidate must have a strong record of professional achievement in their area of specialization that includes national and/or international distribution and recognition and should have expertise in one or more production disciplines.

The New York Film Academy invites applications for a part-time faculty position in screenwriting. The appointment commences in the academic year beginning February 3, 2013.  Significant professional experience is strongly preferred.

Seeking a dynamic, professional author, editorial coach, and chronicler to co-produce a pivotal book about the history, current creators and relevance of social movements.

The book will reveal the whodunits, critical lessons learned, and art of past popular movements -- from labor rights to civil rights to women’s suffrage, anti-apartheid, LGBT rights, etc. The book will surface current organizers and artists who are innovating and nurturing activism in today’s environment from the Quebec and Chilean Student movements to the Dreamers, Zapatistas and LGBT. This will be the story of how marginalized and well-known movement leaders have bent, and are bending, the arc of history toward justice. Through art, narrative, online music and other tools, the book aims to inspire those interested in social change to join the movements of our day – and to do so boldly, creatively and effectively.

The audience envisioned comprises people searching for the heart of past transformative movements and who wish to apply the principles gathered over time to current dilemmas and efforts: grassroots community organizers, youth leadership programs, political strategists and activists, students, parents and educators, philanthropists, academics and the concerned general public who are looking for ways to make a difference.

The project is being seeded by the Schott Fund based in Cambridge, Mass. The work will include developing a strategy and proposals for publishers, conducting research (much of which has begun) and interviews, developing avenues for multimedia dialogue as the work progresses, and, ultimately, writing the book with significant input from the Fund’s co-founder who has started the research and writing.

Candidates must have a background and interest in social movements, as well as demonstrated skills as an able story teller, interviewer, researcher and documenter, and, preferably, success in book publishing. S/he must foremost be a writer who is able to create crisp and poignant stories and extract useful lessons from research. The ideal person is able to work independently and collaboratively while taking the lead with both structured and unstructured guidance.

This project requires a half or full-time commitment over a minimum of a year-long period (likely longer); excellent salary commensurate with experience.
