Did you know that in nearly every job category, union members earn more than non-union employees?
Twenty-six percent more in arts and entertainment, to be exact. The difference is clear: Union members cross the finish line first when it comes to average earnings.
You might find this information helpful next time you're talking up the WGAE with fellow writers who want to know why they should join the union.
Of course there are other reasons to join the Guild, namely one writer alone has far less power than thousands of writers working together for better residual rates and creative rights. Not to mention the health and pension plans, which, unlike company plans, cannot be touched by your employer.
If you are a working screen or television writer and would like more information about joining the Writers Guild, please call our Organizing Department at 212-767-7808.
