Ruth Gallo Is New WGAE Assistant Executive Director


NEW YORK CITY – June 23, 2008 – Ruth Gallo has rejoined the Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE). She returns as the WGAE’s assistant executive director effective today.

"We are very pleased that Ruth is coming back to the Guild," said Lowell Peterson, WGAE executive director. "Her experience with our issues, our contracts, and our members will be a great asset to the union, and it will be a pleasure working with her."

Gallo was associate counsel of the Writers Guild of America, East from 1989-2003. During that time, she participated in negotiations for freelance and staff contracts; supervised internal departments and staff; and represented the WGAE within the industry and also at international conferences. Gallo left the WGAE in 2003 to join the New York State Nurses Association as associate director of the Economic and General Welfare Program, a position she held until rejoining the WGAE. At the New York State Nurses Association, Gallo supervised staff in all aspects of collective bargaining in the public and private sectors; represented the association on the New York City Municipal Labor Committee, and participated in the New York State AFL-CIO Federation Task Forces on pensions and Taylor Law Reform.

Before joining the WGAE in 1989, Gallo was an attorney in the Office of the Regional Solicitor of the U.S. Department of Labor and also worked at the firm Ball, Livingston and Tykulster. Gallo is the 2000 Jablow Award Winner for dedicated service to the Writers Guild of America, East. She received her Bachelor’s and Masters degrees from Columbia University and her JD from Rutgers University School of Law.
