WGA Staffing & Development Platform: An Introduction

The WGA Staffing & Development Platform is a tool that connects Guild members with job opportunities in features and TV development. Click on WGAPlatform.org to login to the Platform and set up your profile now.

Through the WGA Staffing & Development Platform, members can access Find A Writer, the Staffing Submission System, the Weekly Feature Memo, Weekly TV Development Memo, Open Writing Assignments, and Request General Meetings.

Here are descriptions of the available features:

  • Find A Writer – It does exactly what its name says: help employers find a writer by providing a searchable directory with contact information. Its principal aim is enabling potential employers to contact a writer whose name they already know. For example, producers who have open writing assignments, or who are looking to develop material, may want to contact a specific writer. They can do so easily with FAW. In addition, it allows searches by various personal criteria such as gender, ethnicity, orientation, credit, genre, expertise and experience. Like any database, it’s only as good as the data in it. Please check your own record now to ensure accuracy.
  • Staffing Submission System – Use the Staffing Submission System to send your samples, credits/bio, and a cover letter directly to showrunners who are looking for writers. The SSS is regularly updated by showrunners with pilots and returning series. Guild members can make up to three submissions per month.
  • Weekly Feature Memo – Every Friday, the Guild will send out a Weekly Feature Memo (WFM) of available specs and pitches to producers and development execs, via a subscription email. Here’s how it works: Writers submit their loglines to the Guild. Submissions will be organized by genre. Any producer wanting to read the spec, hear the pitch, or set a general meeting will be able to contact the writer via a link to their Find-a-Writer Profile. The Weekly Feature Spec & Pitch Memo is available to Current Members. Submissions received by 3pm Eastern / 12pm Pacific on Wednesday will be sent out each Friday (except for holiday weekends) and submissions after that will be held for the following week. Submission of your logline to the Guild and our circulation of it in the WFM serves as documentation of your creation of the concept. Each writer may make two submissions per month. Please do not resubmit a spec or pitch. We’ll keep the three most recent editions of the WFM live for producers and executives to review.
  • Weekly TV Development Memo – Every Tuesday, the Guild will send out a Weekly TV Development Memo (WTDM) of original comedy and drama pilots and pitches to producers and development execs, via a subscription email. Here’s how it works: Writers submit their loglines to the Guild. Submissions will be organized by genre. Any producer wanting to read the spec, hear the pitch, or set a general meeting will be able to contact the writer via a link to their Find-a-Writer Profile. The WTDM is available to Current members. This policy will be reviewed in the future. Submissions received by 3 p.m. Eastern / 12 p.m. Pacific on Friday will be sent out each Tuesday (except for holiday weekends) and submissions after that will be held for the following week. Submission of your logline to the Guild and our circulation of it in the WTDM serves as documentation of your creation of the concept. Each writer may make one submission per calendar month. Please do not resubmit a script. We’ll keep the three most recent editions of the WTDM live for producers and executives to review.
  • Open Writing Assignments – Current members will be able to submit for up to 3 OWAs each month. On the first of each month, these counts will be reset to 3, respectively, whether the previous month’s submissions were used or not.
  • Request General Meetings – Writers will be able to contact producers, PODs, and companies directly to request General Meetings. At present, Current members will be able to submit for up to 10 general meetings each month. On the first of each month, these counts will be reset to 10, respectively, whether the previous month’s submissions were used or not.
