Job Description:

The University of Michigan’s Department of Screen Arts & Cultures is seeking qualified applicants for an Associate/Full Professor position in Screenwriting. Established in 2006 as a sub major in the Department of Screen Arts and Cultures, the Screenwriting Program offers a variety of courses in screenwriting and television writing that builds on the University of Michigan’s long and distinguished dramatic writing tradition. With a team of talented and produced screenwriters as lecturers and a variety of unique resources (including a vast library of scripts in the Donald Hall Collection, the James Gindin Visiting Artist Series, and the Peter and Barbara Benedek Artist in Residence Program), the Screenwriting sub major at Michigan provides students with a unique opportunity to learn from accomplished teachers and an array of A-List Hollywood and Independent artists. This is a university-year appointment with an expected start date of September 1, 2018.


The successful candidate will teach upper-level screenwriting courses and electives, direct the Screenwriting Program, maintain an active record of writing and production, and contribute to the self-governance of the Department and the College.

Required Qualifications

  • MFA or equivalent
  • Strong record of produced and optioned work
  • Extensive teaching experience at a major university
  • Evidence of leadership experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to program building / fundraising
