Accessing Public Records with Jessica Huseman of the Friendly State News
Jessica Huseman will host a 90-minute course on filing a public records request. You’ll walk away with proven strategies for filing successful records requests, and fill-in requests that can help you start filing immediately.
Jessica Huseman is the editorial director of Votebeat, a non-profit newsroom covering voting policy. She was previously the lead elections reporter at ProPublica. She teaches a course on government transparency at American University School of Public Policy, and data journalism at St. Bonaventure University.
PLEASE NOTE: We are able to present this event for free due to a generous grant from the New York State Consortium for Worker Education (CWE). As part of this grant, WGAE needs to provide the CWE with information on who attends the events they fund. This information is necessary for the CWE to continue to receive their state funding – and, in turn, for them to continue to provide support for programs like the one you are attending.
Completion of an intake form from the CWE is required for participation in this program. The link to the form will be provided to you in your confirmation email, and the form must be submitted prior to the event in order for you to attend; if you do not complete the form prior to the event, your registration may be cancelled
