Vox Media Union Workers Deliver Strike Pledge to Management

Vox Media Union Workers Deliver Strike Pledge to Management

MLBPA, MLSPA, NFLPA, NHLPA, NWSLPA, PHPA, USLPA and WNBPA Support Vox Media Union’s Fight for A Fair Contract

NEW YORK, NY (June 3, 2025) — Today, Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) members at Vox Media delivered a strike pledge to management demanding a fair contract. The strike pledge was signed onto by 95% of the 250-member bargaining unit.

WGAE members in the Vox Media Union are bargaining for a new union contract before their current agreement expires at 11:59pm ET on June 12.

The Vox Media Union strike pledge addressed to management reads:

“We, the undersigned members of the Vox Media Union, are unwavering in our commitment to securing a collective bargaining agreement that fairly addresses the current economic environment, the rapidly evolving digital media landscape, and other issues that our unit has deemed as critical. That means minimum compensation and annual raises that reflect today’s economy and cost of living, a more just approach to Vox’s constant stream of layoffs, language that firmly ensures we will not be displaced by AI, a joint contract that includes our coworkers at The Dodo Union, and benefits befitting the employee-friendly workplace environment that Vox publicly praises itself for having. We will not accept a contract that fails to address these issues with strong guarantees. Should we not receive such a contract, we are prepared to strike.”

Earlier in the day, Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), Major League Soccer Players Association (MLSPA), National Football League Players Association (NFLPA), National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA), National Women’s Soccer League Players Association (NWSLPA), Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA), United Soccer League Players Association (USLPA) and Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) issued a statement of support for the Vox Media Union.

The statement from the various Player’s Associations supporting Vox Media Union’s fight for a contract read:

“We stand in solidarity with the unionized journalists at Vox Media as they fight for a contract that includes their colleagues at The Dodo, and addresses inflation, rising healthcare costs, critical AI protections, and other essential workplace issues.  We’re disappointed the Company will not agree to the Union’s reasonable demands for a fair layoff process – one that would give employees notice and allow for the Union and Company to work together to avoid unnecessary job loss. Vox Media has a tradition of respectable and thriving journalism, and it’s surprising that the Company will not commit to protecting the journalists responsible for this work from replacement by AI. We call on the Company to agree to a contract that will protect worker wages, benefits, and a sense of security at work.”
