WGA Introduces ‘Ask a Screenwriter’ Program for Film/TV/Streaming Members
In the feature writing business, community and mentorship opportunities can be hard to come by. The Guild has built a tool for screenwriters to build informal, peer-to-peer mentorship relationships, called Ask a Screenwriter. This new feature on the WGA Platform (accessible when you log into wgaeast.org) connects writers for single, short mentorship conversations on specific questions or topics.
Any current Guild member can log in and submit up to three mentorship inquiries at a time to experienced writers who have volunteered to share their expertise. If a mentor accepts your inquiry, the system will connect you via private email relay. Mentorship conversations are expected to take no more than half an hour, and can take place within the WGA Platform or via another method of your choice.
Start a conversation that could move your career forward and explore Ask A Screenwriter today!
Want to help your fellow screenwriters? Sign up to be a mentor!
Every writer has unique working experiences and perspectives that could be invaluable to fellow writers. The Guild invites any feature writer with three or more years in the WGA to sign up to become a Peer Mentor.
First, log into the WGA platform. Under the Feature Writers Hub, click on Become a Peer Mentor, sign up, and create your mentor profile. It takes about five minutes.
Being there for another writer isn’t just generous—it’s how we keep our community going. Even if you only have the time for a single conversation with another writer every three months, you can be an invaluable part of this program.
If you are considering being a mentor and want more information on what that entails, please contact WGAE Internal Organizer Josh Vasquez at jvasquez@wgaeast.org.
