How We Did It: The Twist
Zoom
RSVP
Join us for an insightful discussion with TV and screenwriters on the art of writing a great twist in terms of writing process as well as behind-the-scenes logistics. Questions to explore include: How did they come up with their twist? How did they make sure it was surprising while still being supported by what came before? If they pitched their project, at what point in the pitch did they reveal the twist? What measures did they take on set to keep twists from being leaked? We aim to explore TV shows and films that feature memorable twists, spotlight writers who wrote episodes and movies with big twists, and learn about the creative challenges and considerations of how they achieved them for maximum impact. Panelists include: Jeffrey Bell (The X-Files), Katie French (Paradise), Bradley Thompson & David Weddle (Battlestar Galactica), and more TBA; moderated by Sam Christopher (The Blacklist); presented by WGAW’s Genre Committee.

Remaking Myths: Jewish Representation in Horror, Fantasy and Folklore

We will discuss how writers can “reanimate” old tales for modern audiences, as well as delve into Jewish mythology, unearthing frightening, “new” monsters from the past with their own rich metaphors that can speak to the horrors of today’s world.
