The Writers Guild of America East invites members to attend events happening in Los Angeles and online this month.

The calendar below includes information on screenings, panels and committee meetings taking place in October.

RSVPs are not required for screenings at the Writers Guild Theater. You only need your Guild membership card to attend all screenings. All screenings take place at the Writers Guild Theater (135 S. Doheny Dr., Beverly Hills) and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Unless otherwise specified, you can bring up to TWO guests to screenings. On Monday, November 3, Fundamentals of Screenwriting host Timothy Michael Cooper will listen to approximately five preselected WGA members’ live 5-minute pitches, then offer his detailed constructive thoughts on each one. After we review the top pitch must-haves and precisely what executives are looking for, we’ll get right into the pitches. Prepare yourself for actionable, experienced notes on both your concept and your pitching technique. Whether you’re pitching or not, everyone can learn from viewing this pitch session and live critique!

Join the Committee for Inclusion and Equity for a night in which screenwriters, journalists, and experts discuss how we can reframe reproductive freedom in our stories. Where are we in the current landscape of abortion rights and reproductive healthcare access and how can we meet this moment? What are ways writers can change the narrative by envisioning a better, brighter future? Moderated by Melissa London Hilfers (MONARCH), with Susan Rinkunas (Jezebel, Autonomy News), Zora Howard (PREMATURE), Eliza Hittman (NEVER RARELY SOMETIMES ALWAYS), and Caren Spruch (Planned Parenthood).

The NAIWC represents the professional and creative interests of Native American & Indigenous writers. It works to mentor, encourage, empower and increase the visibility of employment of writers of Native American & Indigenous heritage, and serves as a cultural and educational resource for all Guild member-writers seeking to portray Native American & Indigenous Peoples in their work. Established in 2007.

Special guest Zachary Wanerman (Vice President, Feature Film Development, Mandalay Pictures) will appear at 6:30 p.m. meeting start. WGAW’s Writers Education Committee has a broad mandate to develop programs that provide Guild members with practical, inside knowledge about how the industry works and how it is changing, emphasizing tips and tools to help writers succeed. The goal is to provide working knowledge for writers.

This committee actively represents the professional, creative, social and economic interests of Latinx Guild members. Its mandate is to encourage Latinx writers to become more active within the Guild; and to raise the profile and perception of Latinx writers in the industry at large by creating forums that foster networking, collaboration, education, information exchange, employment opportunities and creative expression. Established in 1977.

The South Asian Writers Committee was created to enhance the visibility, access, employment opportunities, and community support of South Asian WGA members. We seek to increase awareness of our unique culture and to empower and support South Asian writers, storylines, and portrayals on screen. Established in 2024. Our featured guest will be Emmy winner and SAWC member Simran Baidwan (The Pitt). Plus, we’ll have a celebration of the SAWC’s one-year anniversary.

The Writers Guild of America West’s LGBTQ+ Writers Committee seeks to utilize its constituency as a resource to all writers who include LGBTQ+ characters in their work. Its members also wish to provide cultural and educational opportunities for WGAW members to nurture an understanding of how sexual orientation and gender identity affect the lives of writers; endeavor to provide networking and social activities enabling the WGAW membership to better know one another and create a greater demand for the writing services of LGBTQ+ WGAW members; and strive to generate a greater awareness within the Guild of sexual orientation (and gender identity) as a minority and, where appropriate, to identify and advocate against instances of homophobia, transphobia and/or discrimination within our industry. Established in 2002.
