Please join the WGAE Asian American Salon for a conversation with acclaimed filmmaker and WGA member Ramin Bahrani (CHOP SHOP, MAN PUSH CART, FAHRENHEIT 451). Moderated by writer/director/producer Maryam Keshavarz (CIRCUMSTANCE, VIPER ROOM), Ramin will talk about this career writing and directing international features for the big screen and TV, including his new Netflix film THE WHITE TIGER.

The event will also welcome the WGAW Asian American Committee, Asian American Writers of Entertainment, CAPE, Asian American Writers Brunch, and the general membership of the WGAE.


About Ramin Bahrani

Ramin

Ramin Bahrani is the Iranian-American screenwriter, director, and producer of the Netflix feature film, THE WHITE TIGER, based on the Man Booker Prize-winning novel written by Aravind Adiga. Legendary film critic Roger Ebert proclaimed Bahrani as “the director of the decade” in 2010 for his internationally renowned, award-winning films including MAN PUSH CART, CHOP SHOP, GOODBYE SOLOR, AT ANY PRICE, and 99 HOMES.

For television, Bahrani’s HBO film, FAHRENHEIT 451, starring Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon, was nominated for 5 Emmys, including Best TV Movie, and earned a PGA award for best television film.

Most recently, Bahrani produced Alexandre Moratto’s Brazilian debut feature, SOCRATES, which won a dozen international prizes and garnered three Spirit Award nominations in 2019. Currently, he is producing Moratto’s new untitled film for Netflix starring Rodrigo Santoro, and Alex Camilleri’s debut feature Luzzu (Malta), which premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.

About Maryam Keshavarz

MaryamMaryam Keshavarz is an Iranian-American writer, director, and producer. Maryam’s first narrative feature film, CIRCUMSTANCE won the Audience Award at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. The critically acclaimed film was released by Participant Media. Maryam’s sophomore feature VIPER CLUB starring Susan Sarandon had its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival 2018 and was released theatrically by Roadside Attractions. The Persian Version, an epic dramedy of migration, family, and the secrets we keep, that traverses decades and toggles between the United States and Iran, will be Maryam’s third feature and is currently in pre-production.
