The Writers Guild of America East invites members to attend events happening in Los Angeles and online this month.

The calendar below includes information on screenings, panels and committee meetings taking place in October.

RSVPs are not required for screenings at the Writers Guild Theater. You only need your Guild membership card to attend all screenings. All screenings take place at the Writers Guild Theater (135 S. Doheny Dr., Beverly Hills) and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Unless otherwise specified, you can bring up to TWO guests to screenings. You can find the latest list of upcoming Los Angeles screenings via the WGAW website. (external – opens in a new window)

Journalists are being targeted, press access to the White House is restricted and the President is going after news outlets that don’t report favorably on the administration. The WGAE is standing up for Press Freedom and inviting you to join a national town hall – a public conversation at a moment of crisis. Taking place via Zoom at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT this Tuesday, January 6, 2026, journalists will share their stories in the virtual event sponsored by The National Writers Union, NABET-CWA, The NewsGuild-CWA, PEN America, Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Freedom of the Press Foundation, the National Association of Black Journalists. The national town hall is an opportunity for journalists, readers and members of the public to come together in defense of press freedom.

The Writers Guild Foundation teams up with Stephens College MFA in TV and Screenwriting for a conversation focused on writing universally resonant stories that come from specific, personal experiences. Panelists include Frida Perez (The Studio) and Annie Weisman (Physical). Attendees have the option to join us in person at the WGAW HQ or through our Zoom livestream. WGF events are open to the public – you do not have to be a WGA member to attend.

Crush your 2026 writing goals at our first Write-A-Thon of the year! Join us for a six-hour writing sprint with our library staff on hand to help with script requests and a community of writers providing the motivation you need to brainstorm, write, revise, or finish that script. Food and drinks will be provided, and those who stick around to the very end will be entered into a raffle to win fun prizes. WGF events are open to the public – you do not have to be a WGA member to attend.

LGBTQ+ Writers Committee Meeting

The Writers Guild of America West’s LGBTQ+ Writers Committee seeks to utilize its constituency as a resource to all writers who include LGBTQ+ characters in their work. Its members also wish to provide cultural and educational opportunities for WGAW members to nurture an understanding of how sexual orientation and gender identity affect the lives of writers; endeavor to provide networking and social activities enabling the WGAW membership to better know one another and create a greater demand for the writing services of LGBTQ+ WGAW members; and strive to generate a greater awareness within the Guild of sexual orientation (and gender identity) as a minority and, where appropriate, to identify and advocate against instances of homophobia, transphobia and/or discrimination within our industry. This committee actively represents the professional, creative, social and economic interests of Latinx Guild members. Its mandate is to encourage Latinx writers to become more active within the Guild; and to raise the profile and perception of Latinx writers in the industry at large by creating forums that foster networking, collaboration, education, information exchange, employment opportunities and creative expression. You can bring TWO (2) GUESTS to all general screenings, and THREE (3) GUESTS at all Family Matinees. Seating is first come, first served. No RSVP needed.
