About the Panelists

Joelle Monique (Moderator) is an award-winning pop culture critic, executive producer, and host. She is best known for her recaps of HBO’s Watchmen series for The AV Club as a writer. She’s interviewed Keke Palmer for Playboy, the creators of Gotham for The Hollywood Reporter, and Lena Waithe with Melina Matsoukas for the cover of Cultured Magazine. As a host, her work on NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour and Fake Doctors, Real Friends with Zach Braff and Donald Faison, has earned her fans across the globe. In 2021, she co-hosted Warner Brothers’ first digital red carpet alongside Kevin Smith for the release of the Justice League: Snyder Cut. Additional appearances include a special look at Black Panther sponsored by Brisk highlighting academy award winner Ruth E. Carter for Collider and a Star Wars special look for Fandango. She’s led panels at San Diego Comic-Con and Toronto International Film Festival. In 2019 she began working as a researcher for iHeart Podcasts. She is now an Executive Producer for Welcome to Our Show, Fake Doctors Real Friends, Red Table Talk, and many more.

Geoff Betts is the Director of Contracts and Credits for the Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE). He enforces the Guild’s Minimum Basic Agreement (MBA) on behalf of all WGAE entertainment writers. This is in addition to overseeing the WGAE’s Credits, Signatories, Residuals and Internal Organizing Departments. Prior to the WGAE, he worked for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) as both a Union Organizer and Business Representative.

Shenee Howard is writer and a podcaster who creates projects about fandom culture in all its forms. She’s the writer, director, and creator of award-nominated Fan Wars and directed the atypical artist project Life With Leo(h). She’s also the host of the k-pop and pop culture podcast Grown Ass Fandom. She’s also seen every single Keanu Reeves movie ever made.

Paul Bae is a former high school English teacher and stand-up comedian—is an author (You Suck, Sir) and award winning audio drama writer-producer of The Black Tapes and The Big Loop. Paul is the director of Marvel Entertainment’s critically acclaimed hit series MARVELS and had a multi-series deal with Spotify to develop his original audio projects. Named in Austin Film Festival and Moviemaker Magazine’s “25 Screenwriters To Watch In 2019,” he previously had development deals with Syfy, NBC, and AMC to develop TV shows. Paul currently has a deal with Amazon to develop his original series Shoot The Moon with Ken Jeong and Daniel Dae Kim. Paul is represented by Guymon Casady (Management 360), Jeff Barry (Range Media Partners), Carolyn Edwards (ICM), and Ryan Nord (The Nord Group).

Zack Akers grew up in a small town in East Tennessee. He graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2008 with a degree in Film & Television and became a documentary producer with Flagstaff Films, whose work has appeared on HBO, ESPN, CBS, and NBC. In 2015, he cofounded Two-Up with Skip Bronkie, which has gone on to produce Limetown36 Questions, The Wilderness, and Shipworm podcasts. He, along with Skip, is also the writer and creator of the Limetown TV show, and is currently adapting the feature script of Shipworm for StudioCanal. He lives with his wife and son in Massachusetts.
