SEX, GENDER, AND POWER IN THE WORKPLACE: A Conversation with WGAE members
Join us for SEX, GENDER, AND POWER IN THE WORKPLACE: A Conversation with WGAE members Shari Springer Berman (AMERICAN SPLENDOR), Theresa Rebeck (SMASH, NYPD BLUE), Kathy McGee (WCBS-TV), Ashley Nicole Black (FULL FRONTAL WITH SAMANTHA BEE), and Julianne Escobedo Shepherd (Jezebel).
We will discuss the ways in which these issues impact writers within and across every corner of the media industry, and in that spirit will include participants from each sector of the Guild’s membership—episodic television, comedy/variety, film, broadcast news, and digital news.
Topics include:
- Power dynamics in the industry, in the writers room, in career development
- Underrepresentation (lack of diversity)
- Behavior/conduct at work
- Tension (creativity vs. propriety)
- Sexualized behavior; sexual harassment
- Barriers to action in the current system/structure
Please note that due to the subject matter being discussed and in order to facilitate an earnest and productive dialogue between members, this event is not open to the press.
