Learn how to have the perspective you need when revising your own screenplay.

The Art of Revisions

Revising a screenplay can be a daunting process, but it doesn’t have to be. There is an art to it. The art of revisions is probably the toughest part of the writing process to get right. The biggest obstacle is that it’s difficult to have perspective on your own screenplay. That’s because you’ve spent weeks or months inside of your story and you can only see it from the inside-out. The art of revising your screenplay is contingent on gaining perspective on your screenplay and seeing it from the outside-in. That is why it’s so easy to give notes to your colleagues – because you’re not stuck inside their story. You can see it clearly. So, how do we gain this clarity on our own screenplays? In this class, Lovinder S. Gill will teach you his innovative Audience Response Meter that is specifically designed to give you the perspective you need on your own screenplay. It will tell you which scenes work well and which scenes need work. It will tell you where you need to focus and what you need to focus on.

The Science of Revisions

The science of revising is technical, logistical and structural. It’s a series of systems that must work together toward a common goal – a successful screenplay. In many ways, a screenplay is a lot like the architectural design of a building. Your foundation must be rock solid or you cannot build your screenplay upon it. The structural system of your screenplay must have perfect integrity or else your screenplay will collapse on itself. The facade of your screenplay must be enticing or no one will come to see your movie. In this class, we will discuss the systems required to make this process work and we will go in depth on how they are connected and how to make them work together.
