In Celebration of Museum of Moving Image's New Exhibit "An Act of Seeing: Barry Jenkins's The Gaze"

THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD chronicles Cora Randall’s desperate bid for freedom in the Antebellum South. After escaping a Georgia plantation for the rumored Underground Railroad, Cora discovers no mere metaphor, but an actual railroad beneath the Southern soil.

The acclaimed adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize–winning novel The Underground Railroad will be the focus of a gallery installation at Museum of the Moving Image. The installation will be anchored by Jenkins’s film The Gaze, a nearly hour-long assemblage of moving-image portraits of principal and background cast featured throughout the show’s ten episodes, and also include production and costume design material from the limited series. Installed within the Museum’s core exhibition Behind the Screen, An Act of Seeing: Barry Jenkins’s The Gaze will be on view through October 31, 2021.

Please note: Screenings and events take place in the Redstone Theater; capacity is limited to 75% and we continue to require face masks for all visitors and staff, regardless of vaccination status. In addition, we kindly request that separate groups keep at least one seat between them. For more information, see the Museum of the Moving Image safety protocols (opens in a new window.).
