Top TV writers Kenneth Lin and the writing team of Bo Yeon Kim & Erika Lippoldt will discuss their careers, their journeys in the STAR TREK writers’ rooms, and the growing influence of BIPOC creators in genre and beyond.

This event will be hosted by WGAE Asian American Salon co-chairs Lisa Takeuchi Cullen and Tian Jun Gu.

Kenneth Lin is an award-winning playwright currently writing on STAR TREK: DISCOVERY (CBS) and CLARICE (CBS), a sequel series to “Silence of the Lambs.” His former television credits also include HOUSE OF CARDS (Netflix), SWEETBITTER (Starz), and WARRIOR (Cinemax). As a playwright, his plays “Warrior Class,” “Pancakes, Pancakes!,” “Po Boy Tango,” said “Saïd, Agency*,” “Intelligence-Slave,” “Genius in Love” and “The Lynching of a White Man In Rural, CA” have been performed throughout the world. Ken is also currently working on the musical adaptation of the film “Farewell My Concubine” with composer Jason Robert Brown.

As a self-proclaimed international nomad, Bo Yeon Kim was born in South Korea, but grew up in Portugal, Brazil, Japan and Vietnam before her desire to write guided her to Los Angeles, where she received her MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA film school. Erika Lippoldt was raised just outside of Paris, France by American parents. She moved to the United States to pursue a science education, and completed a Ph.D. in neurobiology at USC, after which she swapped out the pipette for the pen. Their credits include REIGN, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, and HALO, as well as feature projects for Paramount Pictures and Mythos Studios. They recently developed STAR TREK: SECTION 31 for CBS All Access, and are now serving as Co-EPs on Netflix’s SWEET TOOTH.
