Please join us for Women’s Salon Presents: How Do You Sell a Feature in This Unpredictable Market? on Tuesday, Oct. 27, from 7 to 8 p.m. EST. Top WGAE screenwriters Lucy Alibar (BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD, TROOP ZERO) and Sofia Alvarez (TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE, TO ALL THE BOYS 2: P.S. I STILL LOVE YOU) will discuss pitching and developing features in a market transformed by streamers and rocked by COVID. WGAE Council member and Women’s Salon founder Lisa Takeuchi Cullen will moderate.

About the Panelists

Lucy Alibar

Lucy Alibar’s first film, BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD, which she adapted with director Behn Zeitlin, and is based on her original play, “Juicy and Delicious”, was distributed by Fox Searchlight, won the Narrative Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, won the Humanitas Prize and was nominated for a BAFTA and Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Recent projects include TROOP ZERO, starring Viola Davis (Amazon), BAT KID for Julia Roberts and New Line, THE SECRET GARDEN (Disney and Guillermo del Toro), SWAN LAKE (Disney). Lucy has worked for Pixar, Apple, FX, and on the 2016 Election PSA “We Trump Hate,” She recently performed her solo show, “Burnpile,” at Lincoln Center Theatre, and will transfer to London in fall of 2021. She teaches at universities across the country, including NYU, University of the South, Pace University, and UNC Chapel Hill. Lucy is grateful for the support of The Sundance Institute, Hedgebrook, Ojai Playwright’s Conference, and New York Theatre Workshop. She is a proud Usual Suspect at New York Theatre Workshop and a member of the Writer’s Guild of America.

Sofia Alvarez

Sofia Alvarez is a playwright and screenwriter. She wrote the film adaptions for Jenny Han’s bestselling novels TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE and TO ALL THE BOYS 2: P.S. I STILL LOVE YOU, both for Netflix. Work in television includes the first two seasons of MAN SEEKING WOMAN (FXX) and the first season of SIRENS (USA). Her plays include “Nylon” (BTP / Theaterlab, 2019), “Panelists” (Dorset Theater Festival Pipeline Series, 2019), “Friend Art” (Second Stage Uptown, 2016), “Between Us”
“Chickens” (SCR / EST LA, 2011) and “The Fish Bowl” (Juilliard, 2010) among others. With composer Daniel Roland Tierney, she wrote a musical adaptation of William Steig’s classic children’s book, “Amos & Boris” which premiered at South Coast Rep in 2018. She is a graduate of Bennington College and The Juilliard School’s Lila Acheson Wallace American Playwrights Program. She has taught screenwriting at NYU Tisch and playwriting at ESPA. She has served as a panelist for the Austin Film Festival and the National Endowment for the Arts.
