The Writers Guild of America, East invites you to attend
Karen Horne, Senior Vice President of Programming Talent Development and Inclusion for NBC Entertainment and Universal Television Studios, will discuss various emerging alternative television platforms, the process of creating shows from source material, writing the script and the fundamentals of writing as well as industry tips with regard to taking meetings and personal branding.
At NBCU, Karen is responsible for overseeing in-front-of and behind-the-camera primetime diversity efforts for NBC and Universal Television. NBC’s new Female Forward initiative for female directors, the Writers on the Verge Program, the Emerging Director Program, Alternative Director Program, StandUp NBC nationwide search for stand-up comedians, and NBC’s Late Night Writers Workshop are among the many programs she heads while also overseeing NBC’s Diversity Staffing Initiative.
Prior to her current role, Karen was the Director of Creative Affairs at IDT Animation in Burbank. She designed, implemented, and oversaw Nickelodeon’s Writer Fellowship Program. Horne was also a Director of Writer Development & Special Projects (as well as Studio Liaison) for the Walt Disney Studios Fellowship Program at Walt Disney Network Television. Previously, she served as Director of the West Coast for the Black Filmmaker Foundation in Los Angeles.
Event & Cancellation Policies
This invitation is nontransferable, seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please arrive at least 30 minutes early.
Screenings are overbooked to compensate for no-shows.
RSVPs do not guarantee seating, and no one will be admitted once the film has started.

RSVP Cancellation Policy : Three-Strike Rule
We understand that unplanned issues can come up and you may need to cancel your attendance at an event. If that happens, you must provide adequate notice of your cancellation or else you will incur a late-cancellation penalty.
- For evening events, you must cancel your reservation by 9:00am on the day of the event to avoid a penalty.
- For mid-day events, unless otherwise specified, you must cancel with at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid a penalty.
Cancellations must be made by emailing events@wgaeast.org; phone cancellations will not be accepted.
After missing three screenings without sending a cancellation notice to events@wgaeast.org within the defined window, you will be notified that you have been placed on a three-month hiatus from attending WGAE screenings.
Please note that is your responsibility to track your reservations and strikes. You will only be notified upon your third and final strike that you have been placed on hiatus.
