ThinkProgress Ratifies New Contract

WASHINGTON, DC (December 21, 2018) – ThinkProgress employees represented by the Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE) today ratified a new collective bargaining agreement.

ThinkProgress’ second three-year collective bargaining agreement with the WGAE includes an increase in minimum pay grades, an increase in employees’ ad revenue sharing program, ironclad diversity and anti-harassment language and an additional six weeks of paid medical/care leave.

ThinkProgress is the sixth digital news shop to ratify a contract with the WGAE in 2018, following successful contract negotiations at The Dodo, Onion Inc., Salon, Thrillist and The Intercept. The Guild also represents creative professionals doing digital work at Vox Media, VICE, HuffPost, Slate, Fast Company, Talking Points Memo, MTV News and Gizmodo Media Group.

Lowell Peterson, Executive Director of the Writers Guild of America, East, said, “A critical mass of creative professionals in digital news has decided that collective bargaining is the best way to raise industry standards. We’re proud of all the digital media writers, editors, graphic artists, producers, and others who have joined together to win contracts that raise pay minimums, ensure robust diversity and anti-harassment policies, and protect editorial independence and intellectual property.”
