Vox Media Union Authorize Strike
New York, NY (June 12, 2025)—Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) members at Vox Media voted to authorize a strike if management does not agree to a fair deal before their current contract expires at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
90% of the 250-member bargaining unit voted in favor of the strike authorization. Pursuant to the WGAE Constitution and Bylaws, the WGAE Council’s Online Media sector representatives approved the strike authorization vote.
The Vox Media Union, which includes the editorial staff at Vox.com, The Verge, Eater, SB Nation, Pop Sugar, Thrillist, Vox Media Podcast Network and The Dodo, have so far been unable to reach a deal that includes fair pay, AI protections, competitive benefits, improved severance and layoff procedures.
“Writers Guild members at Vox Media would much rather end the week with a fair and equitable contract than with a strike,” said WGAE President Lisa Takeuchi Cullen. “The union and our allies are ready to support the Vox Media Union should they be forced to strike because management refuses to reach an agreement that meets members’ very reasonable demands.”
The Guild has plans to hold pickets outside Vox Media’s New York office at 85 Broad Street.
Last week, Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), Major League Soccer Players Association (MLSPA), National Football League Players Association (NFLPA), National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA), National Women’s Soccer League Players Association (NWSLPA), Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA), United Soccer League Players Association (USLPA) and Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) issued a statement of support for the Vox Media Union.
In addition, nearly 3,000 union members sent letters to Vox Media CEO Jim Bankoff in support of the Vox Media Union. The letter campaign was supported by the AFL-CIO and New York City Central Labor Council.
