WGA East Statement on Layoffs at CBS
NEW YORK, NY (September 25, 2024) – The following is a statement from the Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) regarding yesterday’s layoffs at CBS / Paramount:
“CBS laid off 12 Writers Guild of America East members working at WBBM CBS Chicago and CBS 24/7. These shameful layoffs are a blow to CBS’s already stretched-thin newsrooms, impact people who worked tirelessly through the pandemic and come in the midst of a Presidential election cycle, and the entire industry is keenly aware that the company plans to execute further draconian staff reductions in the near future. Unsurprisingly, Paramount’s ruthless cuts did not impact their highest earning executives and serve no purpose other than to satisfy investor relations as part of its pending acquisition by Skydance Media. The WGAE will work diligently to ensure our members receive all of the benefits due to them.”
