WGAE Statement on NLRB Firings

NEW YORK, NY (January 29, 2025)—The following is a statement from the Writers Guild of America East (WGAE) on the firing of National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) member Gwynne Wilcox and NLRB General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo:

“The unprecedented and unlawful firing of NLRB member Gwynne Wilcox and the firing of General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo is a transparent attempt to take power away from workers and their unions and give it to billionaire bosses. Under their leadership, the NLRB helped thousands of workers secure collective bargaining rights in their workplaces, held employers accountable for violating federal labor law and worked to modernize labor law and regulations for a changing world. The WGAE is grateful to General Counsel Abruzzo and Chair Wilcox for their steadfast and exemplary service on behalf of working people.

“This administration’s actions, which now leave the NLRB without a quorum to issue decisions in cases that come before it, are a transparent attack on workers and their unions. The American people deserve better.

“The power of the Guild and the broader labor movement does not come from laws or from a federal agency, but instead from the collective power of workers standing together. The Guild will continue to exercise this power in service of its members regardless of the actions of the Trump Administration.”
