Roy Wood Jr. Returns to Host 2026 Writers Guild Awards New York Ceremony

Presenters include Don Cheadle, Bowen Yang, Matt Rogers, Mary & Ronald Bronstein, Jeff Hiller, Desi Lydic, Josh Segarra, Arian Moayad, Micheal Urie, Li Jun Li, David Krumholtz, Shayna McHayle, Kate Mara, Kathy McGee and Robert Smigel.

NEW YORK, NY (January 28, 2026) – Beloved comedian Roy Wood Jr. returns to host the 78th Annual Writers Guild Awards at New York’s Edison Ballroom on Sunday, March 8, 2026.

Wood is currently the host of CNN’s satire news program HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU, which has emerged as CNN’s second most-watched show and the network’s #1 program in the Adults 25-54 demographic, helping drive a 42% year-over-year increase in CNN’s Saturday night viewership.  He wrote and starred in the Writers Guild Award-nominated series COMMAND Z, produced the Emmy-nominated PBS documentary THE NEUTRAL GROUND, was a guest host and correspondent on Comedy Central’s Writers Guild Award-nominated and Emmy-winning THE DAILY SHOW and headlined THE 2023 WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS’ DINNER. In addition to CNN, Wood will be starring in Amazon’s upcoming BARBERSHOP TV series and alongside Keanu Reaves and Jonah Hill in OUTCOME for Apple+.

In a statement, Roy Wood Jr. said, “It’s an honor to again be trusted with leading a night of celebration as we honor one of the most important components in creating the content that gives us either an opportunity to escape, or to learn more about the world we all share.”

Presenters at the 2026 Writers Guild Awards ceremony in New York include Bowen Yang (SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, WICKED), Matt Rogers (THE OTHER TWO, FIRE ISLAND), Mary Bronstein (IF I HAD LEGS I’D KICK YOU), Ronald Bronstein (MARTY SUPREME), Jeff Hiller (SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE), Desi Lydic (THE DAILY SHOW), Josh Segarra (ABBOTT ELEMENTARY), Arian Moayad (SUCCESSION), Micheal Urie (SHRINKING), Li Jun Li (SINNERS), David Krumholtz (THE SANTA CLAUSE),  Shayna McHayle (ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER) and Kate Mara (HOUSE OF CARDS).

At the New York ceremony, Stephen Colbert (THE LATE SHOW WITH STEPHEN COLBERT) will be presented with the Walter Bernstein Award for willingness to confront social injustice in the face of adversity by Robert Smigel (SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE), Terry George (IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, HOTEL RWANDA) will be presented with the Ian McLellan Hunter Award for Career Achievement by Don Cheadle (HOTEL RWANDA); and Diana Son (LAW & ORDER, 13 REASONS WHY) will be presented with the Richard B. Jablow Award for Devoted Service to the Guild by 2025 recipient Kathy McGee (CBS NEWS).
