2022 WGAE Council Candidates Town Hall Confidentiality Policy

The Election Committee of the Writers Guild of America, East hosts the 2022 WGAE Council Candidates Town Hall to provide an opportunity for WGAE members and WGAE Council candidates to speak directly and openly with each other.

It is essential that Council candidates and WGAE members have the full confidence that they can speak honestly and frankly at the Town Hall without fear that their words and their images will be reproduced in the news media or on the internet without their knowledge or permission.

Without such confidence, and the free and open discussion of ideas among WGAE members, the democratic deliberations of the WGAE are diminished and the ability of WGAE members to learn about Council candidates is undermined.

Furthermore, certain information discussed at the Town Hall, if released publicly, may adversely impact WGAE members in organizing, negotiation and enforcement initiatives.

There are ample opportunities for those who wish to make their views known publicly to do so outside of the Town Hall and without reproducing the words or images of the attendees and without revealing sensitive and confidential information.

Therefore, the WGAE Election Committee adopts the following policy with respect to Town Hall:

Members who attend the Town Hall via Zoom agree, by their attendance, not to record, Tweet, forward, post/repost, or in any other way rebroadcast, disseminate or distribute any or all of the proceedings.

Any member who violates this policy will be disciplined accordingly through Article X of the 2022 WGAE Constitution and By-Laws.
