In July 2021, we will feature two screenplay excerpts: one comedy and one drama. A panel of WGAE members will judge the submissions and determine the winning scripts.
The readings will be cast, directed and performed by experienced industry professionals. A moderator will conduct a Q&A with the writer after each reading.
To enter:
1. Pick the best 20-page excerpt from your dramatic or comedic screenplay.
2. Write a short synopsis of the rest of the story, indicating where the excerpt fits into
the narrative. Identify the genre for which you are submitting.
3. Submit your excerpt in PDF or MS Word format to screenplayreadings@wgaeast.org.
Submission Details:
This is a blind entry process. Do NOT include your name or other identifying information on the title page. Only the title should appear on the cover page.
In your email, include your name, a one-paragraph bio, contact information, WGAE ID #, Script Registration #, and any comments. These should appear in the body of your e-mail, nowhere in the screenplay attachment itself.
The competition is open only to WGAE members; only one submission per member will be accepted.
When choosing an excerpt, please think about how the selection would read before an audience, and about the castability of the excerpt. The winning selections will have a limited number of roles to be cast.
Deadline for submission is 5pm EDT, Wednesday, April 28.
