LGBTQ Writing for the Stage and Screen – Full Professor
Northwestern University’s Department of Radio/Television/Film seeks an outstanding Professor of Dramatic Writing (television writing/screenwriting/playwriting) to teach as part of our interdisciplinary MFA in Writing for the Screen + Stage (external – opens in a new window).
This is a tenured position. We seek a writer with a national and international reputation, who has had an impact on the field with a substantial innovative body of work, ideally with an emphasis on underrepresented and LGBTQ+ voices.
We welcome candidates who work across different media – we have strong ties to the Department of Theatre, the Department of Performance Studies, and the Department of Communication Studies.
Preferred Start Date
September 1, 2023
- MFA degree (or equivalent professional experience)
- At least one year of teaching at the University Level
- Substantial writing credits in Television/Film/Theatre
- Teaching classes in the RTVF dramatic writing curriculum
- Serving as a core faculty member of the MFA in Writing for the Screen + Stage
- Admissions and recruitment for the MFA program
- Service to the Department of Radio/TV/Film

The School of Communication has five departments and offers a suite of interdisciplinary undergraduate, professional, and graduate programs. The departments span the communication arts and sciences including the Department of Radio-Television-Film, the Roxelyn and Richard Pepper Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the
Department of Communication Studies, the Department of Performance Studies, and the Department of Theatre (which includes music theatre and dance). The faculty of over 180 includes 99 tenure-eligible faculty. The school offers instruction to roughly 1000 undergraduate majors and 650 graduate and professional students. Founded over 144 years ago, the School has been a leader in developing the communication disciplines and professions, and continues to be a center of excellence in the communication arts and sciences.
