Candidate for Vice President, Film/TV/Streaming Sector
It is an understatement to say that these are not the salad days of our industry. With fewer films and tv shows getting made, shorter orders, smaller writers’ rooms, and an existential fight to protect late night, not to mention free speech, we find ourselves in highly challenging times and rapidly changing media landscape.
And while we fight these newer threats, we are still faced with more familiar issues that are no less important – like protecting health and pension, safeguarding our work from being stolen and exploited by corporate A.I., and ending unpaid work.
The way for us to get through this painful period is to face it head on, while building consensus on the best ways to do this. This requires maintaining solidarity, supporting one another by fostering community, and establishing reliable and transparent communication – for more experienced writers who feel they’re being left behind, and for newer writers who feel they’re not getting a fair shot to build their careers.
I aim to be a voice for you, to listen to your experience, and to help lead the WGAE, and the Film/Television/Streaming sector specifically, through these difficult times from the position of Vice President. As a born and bred New Yorker, a proud WGAE member for way too long, a strike captain, a mentor of WGAE’s Mentorship Program, and a showrunner for multiple studios and networks, I promise to use this opportunity to help lead with experience, grit, and a steady hand. And I’ll be calling on all of you to help.
