Camille Lowder

Candidate for Council, Online Media Sector

I am the Digital Culinary Producer/Editor at Delish, as well as being the head shop steward of the Hearst branch of the WGA-E. I have a degree in magazine journalism, a culinary degree from the Natural Gourmet Institute, and 10+ years of kitchen management experience, all of which have served me in my time at Hearst and with the WGA-E.

I always say that I initially got involved with the union because I saw a coworker brought to tears by the way she was being treated at work, but it was as much because of two of my then coworkers, Zach Lennon-Simon and June Xie, who taught me what it can look like to not assimilate into the corporate machine just because that is what is expected from you. On a day-to-day basis at work, I continue to stand on that platform, that who we are as individuals is what is most valuable about us as employees, and that none of our jobs are so consequential as to require ever being treated without basic human decency.

On a broader platform, I value and support inter-union communication, a modernization/cohesion of WGA-E resources, and educational opportunities for union members. In my free time, I love learning new crafts (currently obsessed with chainmaille), reading (on track for 75 books this year), trying new vegan food, and spending time with my wife Gill and our chihuahua-terrier mix Bacon.
