Candidate for Council, Film/TV/Streaming Sector
A vote for me is the protest vote. For many years now, theĀ guild has been run by a perennial group of like-minded people. And the good news is, that seems to be how most members like it. But, in case you feel differently, here I am.
I didn’t want to go on strike. At the time, a staggering 97.85% of members voted “yes” to the authorization. I wonder how many would do so again? Are we better off? Have our demands for development room minimums employed more writers, or reduced the number of shows in development? Will our gains in streaming rates result in more income for WGA writers, or more orders for foreign and non-scripted productions? Does raising the threshold for a production to be economically viable adversely impact the ability of less-established writers to sustain a career? We fought hard not to share credit with AI– but what if studios fully embrace AI and cut us out of the process entirely? I appreciate that the negotiating committee worked very hard, but I still wonder what level of consideration was given to these questions.
Additionally, I believe the guild should scale back political activism that has no bearing on our work; but can often alienate members. There are many organizations out there for people to get involved with; but this one should focus on its core mission– there’s certainly enough to do.
And even if you disagree with me on the above positions, that’s okay. I’m still someone you can count on to represent you. I promise to bring EVERY concern sent to me directly to the council. Everyone should have a say!
Thank you.
