The purpose of the WGA East caucuses is to promote and encourage the professional and artistic interests of professional writers working in existing and emerging fields of entertainment and news media, including indie film, digital, animation, non-fiction television and digital news.

WGA East caucuses are comprised of members and non-members of the Guild.  Caucuses serve as the device through which the WGA East observes shifts and trends in the media industry and its impact on professional writers.

WGA East promotes the ability of professional writers to pursue their craft as a sustainable career, inclusive of pension and benefits.

Association with the WGAE caucuses offer:

  • Connection with leading, peer professional writers
  • Access to resources that further the career development of professional writers
  • Guidance on contractual issues and advice in pursuing the business of media as professional writers
  • Awareness of industry news as it relates to professional writers
  • Invitations to select member events of WGA East
  • Eligibility for the WGAE/SAG-AFTRA Film Society membership (Indie Film Caucus privilege only)
  • Pathway to membership in the WGA East, as permissible

Admission to the indie film, web series and animation caucuses is by invitation.  To be considered, please complete the WGAE Caucus Application.  New caucus members are welcomed quarterly.

Note on WGAE Membership for Indie Film and Web Series Caucus Members

When a participant of the Indie Film Caucus or Web Series /Digital Caucus has a project of sizable budget, the caucus manager will flag for him/her the benefits of WGAE membership.  If you are making an independent film with a budget of $1.2M or less, please request a copy of our Low Budget Agreement flyer.
